New: Virtual Action Learning
An educational concept on Collaborative Creation with ICT
Virtual Action Learning (VAL) is a flexible educational concept. Integral implementation means a radical change of the education and training programme. However, VAL may also be implemented partly or gradually, just like the supporting Virtual Learning Community (VLC), a user-friendly Internet application. The latter has the advantage that it supports almost any educational concept; from traditional education through to problem-based learning and up to project-based learning. The VLC is especially valuable when used to support Collaborative Creation. This book can serve as a source of inspiration, but it may also meet with resistance because it is so different from what we are used to that not everybody will at first be convinced of its potential. And yet that potential is enormous.
Education has seen many innovations over the past decade, but none as radical as VAL This concept puts the virtual learning environment at the centre of a student’s universe and enhances education using modern methodologies. Educators and participants learn in an independent manner. In this concept the role of the teacher changes into one of Educator as a result of the disappearance of the traditional role of correcting exams. The Educator acts as a facilitator for original thinking.
Given the research results and the enthusiastic reactions of those who have ventured to work with VAL, it has gained itself a proven track record. Not only in formal education situations, but also in training programs provided by many companies and organisations. It has become clear that the results of a proper application of VAL are:
• more students will learn more actively and with more motivation, providing greater depth and flexibility;
• educators work with more pleasure and effectiveness;
• an increase of the quality of training and learning;
• frequently, a decrease in the cost of training.
This book is written for professionals, teachers, educators, knowledge managers, educational consultants, managers, and students of teacher-training institutions and Educational Sciences. The language used in this book is based on the European educational tradition combined with terminology used on the internet. The new insights and experiences are the result of more than 100 pilot projects for European and Asian training and education programmes in which VAL has been applied.
