Brokerage in Africa Country Programmes
Willem Heemskerk of the Royal Tropical Institute discusses facilitating and brokering innovation in agriculture at the national and local level in sub-Saharan Africa. He has been looking at he brokerage role in RIU (Research Into Use) country programmes in Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia. This work is part of the output of RIU's Central Research Team.
Beyond knowledge brokerage: an exploratory study of innovation intermediaries in an evolving smallholder agricultural system in Kenya (2011) RIU
Several organisations with an intermediary role in Kenya's agriculture fulfill functions beyond distribution of knowledge and putting it into use, e.g. fostering integration and interaction among actors in innovation networks and working on technological, organisational and institutional innovation.

Agricultural Innovation coaching is about facilitating innovation in agriculture and rural development. This dossier aims to provide insight into the concepts of innovation coaching, brokering and facilitation, and how the coaching concept can be put into practice by facilitators, brokers and intermediaries to support innovation processes.
